Combine with a visit to Opito Bay

As we were staying in Opito Bay, and there is plenty of parking at the start of the track, there was no reason to not walk this track. A steady climb for around 15 minutes and then about 5 more minutes of level walking has you arriving at a solid viewing platform with panoramic views of Kerikeri Inlet, Te Puna Inlet and into the Bay of islands.
Spend some time watching boats fishing or motoring along. The track is a little awkward in parts as some small tree roots present tripping hazards, but take care and their will be no problem. There is a loop track where you get nice views of Opito Bay.
We were fortunate to see both Fantails and Tui along the way. An easy track for kids.

Another Hidden Gem

How many beautiful spots are there in this country? A short walk (with a few steps and mind the tree roots which make great trip hazards) to a lovely look out and splendid views.

Heaven

Absolutely love this place - shouldn’t be doing a review as then more people will go there. About 20 minutes drive from Kerikeri. A steep ascent/descent from Opito Bay. Quiet often (away from holiday time) you can be at this little pebbly (large pebbles) beach. Love swimming here very calm waters. No gritty sand to contend with. Watch the odd passing boats or take a fishing line. A hidden gem.

A great little hike to stunning views with an option for a quiet, crowd less bay beach

This is a fairly short walk, but somewhat steep at the start. You can walk straight to the point, or if you’re feeling fit, also opt to pop down to the beach on the far side. You’ll get great, elevated, sweeping views of the incredible Bay of Islands, and a beautiful hike through regenerating native NZ bush. At the trailhead, Opito Bay is a popular spot for boating and swimming in calm bay water.
