Home from home and then some

I really don’t know where to start, such an amazing place. We stayed for 5 nights whilst visiting family in the area. Gavin and Sally were welcoming, amazing, hilarious, beyond helpful and super sweet. Breakfasts every day were scrumptious with an amazing choice on offer. We had fresh fruit and yoghurt every day followed by toast and homemade Jam/marmalade. Others would have cooked breakfasts. Sally would go out of her way to make sure people had what they wanted. Both would check in about the previous day and provide helpful suggestions re the day ahead. The rooms are clean and spacious with lovely views. For the first 3 nights we had the garden room which was lovely. I loved watching the sparrows and sleeping cats (the gorgeous sugar and spice) living in harmony. On the last two nights we were upgraded to the pool room which was fantastic. The beds are large and really comfy. The bathrooms are spacious and well stocked with bathrobes etc. Aside from little storage there is everything you could possibly need. A lot of people would normally only stay for one night in the area so I would imagine storage is not an issue for most. The pool was a bit too cold for us because of the weather (personal choice and equal cowardice) but we did have the pleasure of trying out the hot tub. It was amazing, very luxurious. The gardens are really beautiful. Gavin and Sally went out of their way to book tables for us in the evenings (even when one restaurant showed as fully booked) and give us lifts out and back. As they says it’s not what you know of who you know. We really felt like part of the family and can not recommend this place enough. My advice.... one night is not enough for you to fully appreciate their charm or the area. …

Cute NZ homestay

The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood, not far from the highway (we came from Rotorua) and about 10 minutes’ drive from Napier’s city centre. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Gavin and Sally who were relaxing in the garden by the pool with two other guests. We were invited to join them for a tea and some swimming which we happily did before the sun disappeared. Overall we were very impressed and touched by their hospitality and genuine interest in all the guests. Even for those who only stay one night (which was the case for us)! The house has got 3 rooms and as far as I could tell they are all very lovely and cosy. Each room has a garden view with patio and slide doors. The room and bathroom was clean and the bed was big and comfortable. The highlight of our stay was the breakfast the next morning, all these fresh fruits, juices and avocado from the garden (or the area). Truly outstanding and delicious! We definitely recommend this homestay and would have loved to stay for another night. …

4 night stay in January 2018

Had a great 4 night stay here. Gavin was in charge during this time and he made us feel so welcome. The room was great, spacious enough for two of us and a months worth of luggage. Wifi was excellent as well. The location is about 5 miles from Napier but we had a car and it was no problem driving in for food etc. Breakfast was excellent and to order, met a lovely family from Wellington whilst there as well, it's great to have a chat with fellow guests over breakfast. Gavin also let me sample some wonderful NZ Red Wine on one of the evenings and the following we had a bbq, he really was a great host and interesting guy always ready to help. As total cat lovers we adored the two there and it is indicated when booking that they are around so if you are allergic or not cat lovers you have no excuse. All in all a great stay. Thank you so much. …

Another great visit

We stayed at Ashcroft Gardens in Feb 2015 and it really says it all that we have come back to this lovely B&B which feels just like home. Sally and Gavin are great hosts, they welcome you like a friend and are passionate about making your visit the best experience possible and nothing is too much trouble for them. From a welcoming drink, to comfortable rooms, good advice about the area (and country), a beautiful garden with a welcoming swimming pool, push bikes to borrow if needed and the best breakfast we have ever had. To cap it all they would even make sure you got home safely if you were out and had a little too much to drink and drive. What more could we ask for. THANK YOU both for helping to make our holiday special.
