Black Beauty

Black Estate is one of Waipara's gems. From the picturesque landscape and views of the Southern Alps, to their local foraged or sourced ingredients, Black Estate offers the most memorable of dining experiences. The quality of their ingredients is top class, their service is professional and friendly, and their lcoation is nothing short of the personification of New Zealand. Highly recommend a visit. It's less than an hour from Christchurch and well worth the time in the car admiring the scenery. Make sure you book so you don't leave disappointed!

Black Estate was perfection!!! Excellent food and wine, delightful service, fabulous bnb!

We stayed at the bnb for two nights, did the wine tasting, bought a bottle of wine and also had lunch at the restaurant. We were blown away by the warm hospitality (shout out to Missy, Sam and Pen the incredibly lovely owner). The bnb truly exceeded our expectations, all these thoughtful touches like freshly baked bread with housemade spreads and granola for breakfast, complimentary local craft beers, lovely toiletries and the best part was we had the entire vineyard to ourselves at night! We felt so privileged staying there it was the real highlight of our trip. As foodies from Melbourne we were very impressed by the quality of the food we enjoyed at the restaurant - the venison main was perfectly cooked, my husband’s spatzle main was all kinds of umami with the 62 degree egg and I loved my glass of orange wine! The wines are excellent - my other favourite was the Wild Life Profilo Pinot noir. Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay xx

Beyond my expectations

My expectations were high based on previous reviews which means I could easily have been disappointed but our visit was fabulous from when we arrived until we left. Firstly the service from Sam was first rate from the banter to the selection of wines he provided for us to select from. We left the food selection to Sam as well and he put together a great selection of dishes to share. We loved all the dishes and certainly had enough to eat. You know it’s been a great experience when the only issue was that I was unable to purchase my preferred wine from the cellar door because it’s sold out. Thanks for making our day so great. I will definitely return and recommend to others.

Wedding Anniversary

For our Anniversary this year and due to Covid-19,we thought we’d take advantage of the accommodation at Black Estate and enjoy a wine tasting, a lunch and a night there. The staff greeted with warm and friendliness and reminded us that our stay included the wine tasting; we got settled into the cosy room which was comfortably furnished and had long views of the vineyard. The room had tea, coffee, wine and a wine cooler fridge. You can bring your own food or arrange with Black Estate for one of their meals; breakfast is provided. We enjoyed our wine tasting and when the winery was closed we enjoyed the peace and quiet, having the whole place to ourselves. Sat on the steps of the restaurant with a glass of wine in our hand and surveying the vines. It was a spectacular sight. A night at Black Estate was exciting and fun and something I would recommend to any couple. There is only the one room so maximum two people. And to be in the vineyard alone is quite special. We would recommend a Black Estate stay if you want something for a quiet night for two......

I love Black Estate.

If you come to the South Island and don't visit this place, you're a moron. The food is seasonal, beautiful and generous. The wine is the best in the world. Fun and friendly service. Black Estate has a good heart. Stay at the air bnb if you get the chance. B.E 4EVA

A hidden gem

Whilst it may be easy to overlook black estate in favour of some of the roadside vineyards in Waipara, we were pleasantly surprised to discover the delicious food, friendly staff and unique wines offered by the team at Black estate. We were fortunate enough to visit on a beautiful day allowing us to enjoy the meal with stunning views over the waipara valley. Friendly service and top drawer food. Bravo!
