Last sleep site before Milford Sound

Travelling in freedom certified campervan, campsite was about 1/3 full but got great place right in front of the creek. Plenty of toilets (longdrop ones) but we’re not here for luxury. Quiet environment and amazing morning views. Cost was $26 for 2 adults in the campervan and well worth it. Got a good start for our walks that day. Be warned though: 2 checks from DoC staff for anyone trying to not pay up! An evening round and a morning gate check on the way out. Do the right thing

We loved it!

The Milford Road was closed at Hollyford Rd when we visited and we were hoping it would be opened in the morning. We checked out all of the sights along the way until Cascade Creek camp and then set up for the night so we could set out for Milford Sound in the morning. The Lake Gunn walk was amazing and is right near the campground. There were heaps of spots to choose from, many with tables and fireplaces. There were heaps of toilets and some kitchens which we didn’t use as we were self-contained. We camped in a quite little spot by the forest and the kids toasted marshmallows on the fire. This was our favourite DOC campsite on our trip.

Great spot and close to Milford Sound cruises.

We chose this spot to freedom camp as it was close to the Milford sound cruises. There was a nice walk to do and basic toilets and clean under cover food prep areas and tables. Plenty of space for everyone. Would recommend. The landscape is better suited for motorhomes as there is lots of gravel and uneven ground but there were lots of tenters in the edge of the bush where it was shaded.

Magic spot

Camped there on the way to Milford Sound. Great spot to get off the road and either pitch a tent or park the camper van. No power or drinking water available, however still great to watch the sunrise/sunset through the gorges. Spectacular!!
