Pick a sunny day and take your camera

If more people would review this attraction it would streak up Dunedin’s ’things to do’ list. Print off the map onliine before you set out. There around 30 generally large, often amusing murals within a reasonable walking distance or each other. And there seems to be a few more since the last time we visited Dunedin three years ago. Definitely worth an hour of your time.

A Novel Way to Explore a City

Dunedin has some great street art. iSites and the web offer maps to find the various pieces. Some can be tricky to find. Many are in car parks, so this ends up as a tour of Dunedin’s car parks!

Excellent art!

We found a map with all the street art online. It’s just outside of the main city center, but it’s really worth your while. The art is mostly very well done, and it’s nice to find them in all the alleys and around corners on the sides of buildings. I love it that no one disturbes the art by putting other graffiti over it, like you see in many other cities. Even the wall with all the stickers and placards is really fun to look at. If you take your time you will discover so many inventive, sometimes political ways of expressing yourself. Highly recommended!!

Great walk to get to know Dunedin

We followed the street art map as a way to tour the centre of Dunedin. This saves time if you have a short stay and takes you to places you might not have discovered. Some of the art work is stunning, and clearly much nicer than the graffiti that it has replaced. A good free activity.

If you are up for a walk then head on out...

Spent one afternoon in Dunedin wandering around tracking down all the street art. There is a web site call Dunedin Street Art Trail which provides you with a PDF map of the locations of all the art. The art subjects are wide an varied but clearly painted by some talented people. I took many photos and now have a couple as wallpaper on my desktop. If you are up for a bit of exercise and its a nice day then go for a wander with your camera to work up a thirst before heading to the Emersons Taproom for a tasty beverage.

Around every corner...

During our travels we have seen many fine examples of street art and just flat out blatant graffiti. Dunedin has embraced the concept with enthusiasm, there are many murals to admire (over 30), it was fun seeking them out, we cheated a little by picking up a copy of the street trail map at the i-site (info centre) on the octagon, (yo can also download). The art trail is awesome to do, definitely a stand alone attraction, also a good way to see the back streets of the city.

A great way to spend a couple of hours.

One of our group arranged maps and we set off late morning. It took about 2 hours with a coffee break. A great way to see the Victorian side of the city and the art is both fun and well thought out. A nice day was a bonus.. There is a dunedinstreetart website. Another bonus is that it’s free.
