Escape Masters New Plymouth

After reading the great reviews we were really disappointed with our escape room experience. This is our second escape room venue we’ve been to as a family but to be honest was nowhere near as good as the one we visited in hamilton (and more expensive). Started with a really awkward briefing from a young staff member who listed all the things that we could do to get “kicked out” and also pointed out if we took photos we would have our phone taken off of us and images deleted. I don’t think they meant to come across the way they did but it wasn’t a good start - certainly not welcoming. We did the pirate room as it was recommended as the best room. We found it challenging in terms of difficulty but also found it completely lacked any atmosphere at all. The one we did in Hamilton had really cool sound effects and really varied puzzles, whereas we felt all we did here was unlock a series of padlocks. The scenery and props had the feel of a high school class project and when you’re paying $150 as a family you expect a lot more. Possible off day from the staff and maybe the other rooms are better but we certainly won’t be going back

Our family group of 6 had a great time. Two of our group had previously been to another escape room, but we all had lots of fun and it was a good challenge. I’m really keen to go back and try another room. Everyone had the opportunity to do something towards figuring out the clues and it was an awesome activity to do together.

A great evening with colleagues trying to become the escape masters! There was a range of puzzles to solve and locks to undo. Plenty of clues to test your deduction skills with time pressure making it exciting. Highly recommended. I have one room left to conquer and I am looking forward to it. Thanks Dana and Lance.

This was my first time doing an escape room! I now want to come back and do the other 2 rooms. Dana and Lance are awesome and are really passionate about their rooms.

Great fun and highly recommended.

Amazing escape room! This was a very enjoyable experience. Lovely staff who are very passionate. Will one hundred percent return to do another room.

This was an entertaining way to spend an hour. And there was a lot of discussion afterwards - who found the most clues etc etc, I desperately want to do it again.

So much fun for the whole family. Awesome people who run it too. The pirate and train rooms are awesome (haven’t tried the zombie one yet)
