HEALING

The staff here are wonderful. My 91 year young Mother and I had a one night stopover, REALLY budget friendly and a beautiful surround with Mother Nature. Thank you. We will be back when we need a "stop over".

A well-preserved piece of yesteryear

A family or group could spend a couple of hours here. It’s beautifully situated in a peaceful rural area with views over farmland.

The buildings and exhibits are clean and well-maintained.

There are toilets in the carpark.

I recommend browsing the small used bookshop. The offerings are of high quality and priced very reasonably.

Fantastic place to visit

Fantastic place to visit. I didn’t know quite what to expect so was pleasantly surprised.
A very welcome reception on our arrival by staff. Apart from this been fun and nostalgic for us, it was great to have activities placed around the area for everyone to be interactive and entertained there, rather than just walking around ’looking’ at things.
So it is great for families with children or just adults.
We had a lot of fun and were there for much longer than we thought we would be.
At the end we spoke to the lovely young lady in charge and she personally took us back to several places to answer questions we had.
Would happily go back and it is an ideal place for everyone.
A good idea to look at a cafe on site so that one can stay longer and enjoy the atmosphere there.
Well worth the visit an only a few minutes from the Matamata centre.

Fascinating ruminating at what life was like back in the day

This is an absolutely superb living museum. Wandering through the old homestead built in 1902 to catch a glimpse of what5 life was like back then, all the while listening to recordings that spin yarns about back in the day. Its fascinating.

Nice museum

We arrived and we were met in a very welcoming manner and the young lady who was manning the Fort was bubbly and full of information. There are lots of buildings and exhibits. We found each one very interesting. It spanned from the late 1800’s to about the mid 1960’s. Lots of great local history and the machinery was interesting as well. Worth the visit.

No one onsite

We were looking forward to seeing this place and made sure it was gonna be open on ANZAC day. However we turned up and no one was on site. Other people there were disappointed as well. Since we were staying the night in matamata we made it a priority to return the following day as it would be a normal working day. But it was the same. We just took pictures outside the buildings as people were trying to ring the council to open the building as well. I would’ve rated it higher but disappointed we couldn’t get into the buildings.
