Pet friendly and wonderful staff!!!!
My kids and I have spent the past few days travelling round Northland with our very well behaved small English Staffy. Today we went for Breakfast at Gecko Cafe, the staff where friendly & not only allowed Stellar to sit at the outside table with us they got her a water. Was so nice to find a pet friendly place to eat after being disappointed throughout the Bay of Islands with signs everywhere saying No Dogs. The food was great huge portions & couldn’t finish our plates. The cafe is clean & staff were approachable and welcoming. Was a nice change for my family it’s 5 stars from us for welcoming our 4 legged family member!

The best poached egg based brunch I've ever had.
I ordered the Rama-Gee here. It's a local twist of poached eggs, hollandaise avocado and a few extra surprises thrown in. As an entitled middle class Englisman who live in Surrey eating poached eggs and avocado is almost a daily occurrence. So I believe im well placed to pass judgement. This is was the best I have ever eaten. I had to restrain myself from immediately ordering a second portion.

Great coffee and ambience
Really enjoyed a late breakfast at Gecko - lovely staff, delicious eggs on toast (one scrambled, the other poached) and excellent coffee. A busy cafe at this hour though efficient and bubbly staff have no trouble coping - our coffee arrives within minutes and meals in about ten. Notice the takeaway meals are served in environment-friendly packaging - no plastic here. The EFTPOS was down - staff very apologetic - we had to fetch cash from an ATM across the road before ordering - no problem. Will make this my cafe of choice in Kaitaia!

This is one of the top 2 cafes in the far north according to me local of 23 years haha, this place has beautiful coffee, beautiful food, and beautiful staff
