Location / Nearby General Entry to Taupo DeBretts Spa Resort Water Park
Description
Ahhhhhh… the bliss of sliding down into the natural mineral pools of the Taupo DeBretts hot springs. With two huge mineral pools set amongst beautiful landscaped resort surroundings, it’s the perfect spot to relax and soothe tired, aching muscles. Taupo is one of New Zealand’s most active thermal regions, and DeBretts enjoys a prime location at a natural ‘hot spot’ – a geothermal spring known as Onekeneke. For more than a century, people have flocked here to enjoy its famous relaxation and medicinal benefits. At Taupo DeBretts, we cool the way-too-hot volcanic waters down to a far more inviting temperature range of 38 to 41°C (100.4 to 105.8°F), all the while preserving the abundance of health-enriching mineral components. Opening hours: 8.30 am to 9.30 pm, last entry 9pm.

Luke warm pools
Pools don’t seem as hot as they use to be. Visited about 20 years ago and they were much hotter, still OK though for a soak. Why is it way colder, I’m thinking maybe a seasonal thing.

Warm and cosy
It was really a great experience. We went for a weekend treat with the ultimate package and what a treat! The Villa where we stayed was so cosy and had all the comfort you need. Heated flooring and shower was a dream. Spacious and really well equiped.

Good morning out..
Came here for a morning. Booked in advance on the website which was easy and painless. Entry was a bit confusing as to where to go, but got there in the end. There were three pools.. One a bit too hot for me, one very comfortable and one fresh water cold / cool pool. There were also 2 spas. The hydroslide costs extra (which is a bit of a swizz considering how much you already pay for entry. One of the slides was under repair so we skipped the hydoslides. The kids water playground is good fun and you can open and close all sorts of taps to change the layout.
We brought our own picnic but the menu looked good and reasonable priced if you wanted to buy over there. The place could do with a bit of a makeover (the wooden boards are slowly rotting for example and there was barrier tape in a few places).
Still had a good time, but very little to actually do for the kids if not in the water all the time.

Rubbish
Rubbish. Pool was full of debris (leaves and bugs), changing rooms were dirty, full of rubbish and chewing gum. Lifeguards are terrible- (especially the old grumpy fat bald guy who likes to make little girls cry). Nobody watching the slides for long periods so kids sneaking up for free rides. This place used to be so clean and professionally run. Time for a new manager.
