Location / Nearby Half-Day Kayak to the Maori Rock Carvings in Lake Taupo
Description
Explore Lake Taupo as you kayak to the Maori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay. You will start your half day tour from the sheltered waters of Acacia Bay before paddling out on the lake below native bush, past steep cliffs and mini inlets that can only harbor a kayak. The experienced guide will explain the carving's cultural significance to the lake and surrounding areas while you float beneath them. On the way back stop for gourmet refreshments and can take the opportunity to swim or go for a rock jumping into the clear waters of the beautiful lake. If the breeze comes up, you can raft your kayaks together and sail back – bliss! Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Departure time is at 8:30am and 1:30pm in summer and 10:00am and 1:30pm in winter from our base in Acacia Bay. Allow approx 4 hours per trip (3 hours on the water).

Amazing Guide!
The guide was amazing! I forgot his name...i even asked twice... he made our ride very pleasant and he was very professional. Taking photos for us and providing hot beverages and muffins. Teaching us tips with how to ride on the waves etc. I would highly recommend if you are active, to do the kayak to see the maori carving rock instead of boating, it made a lasting impression and it was super fun!
Rode 20th January @1:30pm.(as i cannot remember the guides name sorry, you were amazing :D )

Kayak Trip to the Rock Carvings
Matt was our tour guide and my partner and I and our 7yr old boy had an amazing journey on Lake Taupo with him. Proficient in using Te Reo along with his knowledge of the area, the different bays, historical recall of the various landmarks, and of course the carving of Ngatoroirangi. This trip included a tea/coffee refreshment and muffin service. Matt said it’s the first time he’s had someone fall asleep lol (our little boy).
Many thanks to you Matt and Taupo Lake Kayaking Adventures. Look forward to getting our whanau off their jolly devices and bringing them along next time.

Maori carvings
Called up in the morning and more than happy to find us a double kayak to take out 30mins later. A great way to spend a few hours on the beautiful lake Taupo. Will definitely back next time.

Brett was the best!
If you’re looking for fun, adventure, and great company, then this is for you. Elgan and Rob were fantastic guides, going out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. Not only were they great with getting photos (so that your experience is captured), they also spun some great yarns. Despite the fact that I was the only customer on the tour, I felt relaxed and at ease.
The kayaking itself wasn’t strenuous - if anything, I enjoyed the challenge (although my arms may need some time at the hot springs now!). There’s ample time to get out to the carvings and back, and also time to admire the lake and its tranquility. We stopped for delicious muffins and refreshments along the way, which really added to the experience. Nothing like being able to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
The owners were also helpful, assisting with pick up and drop off from Taupo. That was important for me as I didn’t have my own transport. Thanks, team.
Overall a fantastic experience - I look forward to seeing what else TKA has to offer the next time I return to Taupo.

Great way to spend a morning.
We had an amazing morning on the lake going to see the Maori carvings. Brett was our guide and told us local tales and about the area, he was a great guide.
The hot chocolate and coffee with a muffin was much appreciated at the halfway point.
We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and would recommend going on be of their trips. It was Awesome!
