About us

The Courtyard Cottage is a peaceful, self-contained hideaway separate to that of your hosts, with its own private entrance. Tastefully & elegantly furnished, it boasts a cosy lounge, dining area and kitchenette on the ground floor, whilst upstairs, a romantic master bedroom with a four-poster bed, quality brocade bed linen, & an en-suite bathroom stocked with beautiful hand-made toiletries. Here, you will find yourselves right in the heart of Marlborough's wine region, so if the idea of visiting Renwicks’ cellar doors by bike takes your fancy, we can make it happen for you. We promise you don't need to be super fit or confident on a bike to visit them as many can be reached via quiet roads & bike paths. We very much look forward to seeing you. Steve and Jo

B&B Brilliance

Somehow missed Marlborough in our thirty-year adventures in NZ. The region is stunningly beautiful and one of those “let’s not tell anyone else” places. The Official Tourist Guide trumpets - “Brilliant Every Day”. It was! We are always wary about booking accommodation via adverts. No worries. Jo and Steve are highly knowledgeable and helpful hosts.. The self-contained cottage exceeded our expectations and is immaculately presented. Upstairs and downstairs bathrooms, beautifully laundered linen and bathrobes, local soaps, sumptuous silver service breakfasts, and Jo’s wow factor baking. We are not the first reviewers to say, “We could live there! A free two, three, or four wheel cycle adventure awaits! Don’t worry about traffic, hills or experience - tuition, support and a courtesy bus is on hand - and do ask Steve about his garage treasures. Hillsfield is five minutes drive from Blenheim airport. We flew from Dunedin and were immediately taken by the wall-to-wall vineyards. Forrest Wines is two minutes away and lovely. Renwick is another close neighbour with fish and chips, the excellent Phoenix Café and an English style pub! Visit Blenheim for relaxed shopping and beverages. Drive to Picton for salt air and seafood and the magnificent Sounds. View Wellington from Yealands Winery; a coastal treasure! Hillsfield simply delivers. You will be as cosseted and welcomed as we were, not least by two softy canines Willow and Lee-ah. Mega thanks Jo and Steve. Beautiful & Brilliant! …

Perfect getaway

We haven't stayed in many B&B's probably because we normally travel with our boys. This B&B's set the bar very high. Jo and Steve have thought of everything from nightlights to a magnifying make up mirror and there's 2 bathrooms! Breakfast was fabulous and when we returned from our wine tour there was fruit and cake waiting for us. This accommodation is quiet, clean, restful and set amongst some of the best vineyards in the world. Steve and Jo also run Wine Tour by Bike so we got to use the bikes as part of our stay which we really enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful accommodation and awesome hosts

We stayed for 5 amazing days. The accommodation was beautiful and roomy, with kitchen and living room downstairs and large bedroom upstairs. There are two bathrooms (one upstairs, one downstairs). Accommodation is separate from the main house. It is well insulated, so warm and quiet. There is a heat pump/air-conditioner in the lounge (we didn't need it, but may be handy). Location is quiet and pretty (semi-rural), but convenient location (close to Renwick shops which includes a supermarket). Jo and Steve are awesome. Very friendly and helpful without being imposing. We couldn't of asked for better hosts. Just really nice people! Breakfast was included and was plentiful and delicious. Better than expected. We made good use of the bikes as there are several wineries very close by. We would love to stay again in the future, and would highly recommend to others. …

Didn't want to leave! I could live here!

I can't say enough about Jo and Steve and their hospitality. They were amazing people, and even when you know they are busy (running the Wine by Bikes tours business) they will still spend time talking to you. The breakfast they bring in the morning is just amazing, the accommodation is superb (the four- poster bed too!). Plenty of room to put all your things, and an extremely confy lounge to sit in. We have had a relaxing 4 days on our tour around NZ and really didn't want to leave. It was like home from home. We stayed here 2 years ago for 3 nights and it wasn't long enough. Next time we come over (hopefully) we will make it a week. Besides visiting all the wineries, they are so many places to visit- Blenheim, Picton and the Queen Charlotte Track, Nelson and Nelson Lakes National Park (recommended by Steve). For any couple who wants to stay in this area, this is a must. …

Lovely house in stunning setting with amazing hosts

What a fantastic place - we stayed two nights on our five week tour. Lovely comfortable, spacious house with everything you could need and with amazing hosts who look after your every need. Added bonus of using the bikes (good quality with proper saddles!) to get around the vineyards for wine tasting. A wonderful stay in an amazing location.
