Warmest house, warm heart. Stay 2 nights at least, a winter stay recommended

We 3 intrepid ladies biked from Hokitika to Grants homestay at Lake Kaneire hoping to avoid the famous West Coast rain. As we finished the most beautiful forested track and came out to the incredible lake Kaniere, there was Sunny Bight Rd just in front of us. We were greeted by Grant and a warm blast of air from the furnace at the bottom of his 3 storied house overlooking the Lake. I have never been in such a warm house or had such a comfortable bed. A choice of 3 bedrooms, yummy porridge for breakfast and a great tour guide if you would like to venture further. Grant is a gracious host, environmentally sound and a fountain of local knowledge Highly recommended. Go on, just keep an eye o. The weather forecast, if you get wet, you'll be warm and dry out at Grants homestay.

great hospitality

We got great hospitality from Grant who sorted our night on the trail out. He even arranged to have our food bought from the supermarket so we could cook our own meal and make sandwiches the next day. House is great - right by the lake, and only a few hundred meters from the trail. Swimming beach right on the other side of the road. A pleasure to stay with Grant in his bit of paradise.

Stunning lake kaniere

There were 3 of us who rode from Kumara to Lake Kaniere on a stunning west coast day as part of the wilderness trail ( which by the way you have to do, it's wonderful!). We arrived to a very friendly welcome form Grant who had also arranged for our food for dinner to be at his place on the night of our arrival. That was super helpful!. Grant was a friendly host who certainly made us feel very comfortable. Lake Kaniere, do stay here, I wish we had factored in an extra day to explore it's walks as it was just glorious.

Perfect in every way

We were 2 couples cycling the Wilderness trail. Our email communication when booking was always very prompt and confirmation easy. The location is stunning and the bedrooms all large. The house was toasty warm and you get to access the kitchen etc as if it's your own. Linen is supplied and Grant the host is one of the Coasts true characters. We had a wonderful stay here, highly recommend and will most definitely be back. Thanks for making our cycle trip so much fun.

Welcome sight at the end of a wet day

After 6 hours of light rain, heavy rain, showers followed by heavy rain ............. on the West Coast Wilderness Trail, Grant and Lake Kaniere Homestay couldn't have come sooner. Grant had all the fires going and the hot water tank full. The drying room was outstanding and dried all our clothes, shoes and gloves by morning. Grant was extremely obliging and let us treat his house as though it was ours.
