Fabulous, welcoming and delightful cottage

The cottage in Ludlow Farmstay was delightful well equipped and very comfortable. Gwen and Neil were wonderful hosts and we joined them for a delicious evening meal. An excellent place to stay to enjoy rural New Zealand.

Wonderful Hosts in a Relaxing Setting

Gwen and Neil were wonderful hosts. The separate house you stay at is a very comfortable home with lots of windows to look over the countryside and their Farm. It truly is a farm stay. During our stay cattle were moved between paddocks, we were able to watch from the outside patio their dogs manage the cattle through. We were able to watch the sweet corn harvesters work their fields. Neil took us for a ride through his fields and explained what the family farmed. Great experience. We opted for the Farm hosted meals, you do have the option to make your own meals if you bring your own groceries though. Their main house is a short walk through a paddock. They were gracious hosts in their beautiful home, and the food they prepared was wonderful and plentiful. It was like going to a neighbors home for dinner, very relaxing. This truly a Farm stay, it is about 7 kilometers out of the village. Oh and don't forget to look at the evening sky. It is very dark so you get an excellent view of the stars. As we were walking back to our house for the evening the rising full moon was coming up. Very picturesque. …

Beautiful, cosy hideaway

We travelled New Zealand for a month on honeymoon and this really was one of the favourite places we stayed on the trip. It's lovely to get off the tourist trail and get a taste of the real New Zealand and Gwen and Neil were incredibly welcoming. My husband is a farmer in the UK and Neil gave us a really interesting tour of the farm. The cottage itself is just lovely and cosy - we lit the fire and popped open the bottle of bubbly that Gwen had so kindly left in the fridge for us. The fridge was also packed with delicious breakfast treats to go with Gwen's freshly baked loaf of bread - perfect! The farm is in a beautiful location but also very easy to get to nearby Napier and Hastings and explore the surrounding vineyards - we went to nearby Te Mata peak which was lovely. Would definitely recommend a visit - you are guaranteed a very warm welcome! …

Lovely house, lovely area, lovely people

We spent two nights at the Ludlow Farmstay. Neil and Gwen White are lovely people who are very welcoming. Staying in their cottage and taking a farm tour with Neil gave us at least a small sense of the farming life that has been such a huge part of New Zealand. Dinner with them (an extra but well worth it) was lovely both for the food and the company. Gwen provided more than ample breakfast food for us, including fresh bread both days we were there. Finally, their daughter runs a cafe down the road and was having a community dinner. We went and had dinner at a long table with locals. Totally a great experience. The cottage is pleasant, well kept, reasonably stocked and comfortable for five people. I have one very small issue. The Internet does not really reach the cottage. I know that we should be on holiday, but life does not really work that way and Internet access is helpful. …

We will definately come back!!

Stayed here in October for two nights, two of us and four dogs! (had a dog agility champ in Waipukurau that weekend). A fantastic experience - our hosts could NOT have been more obliging and we couldn't think of one more thing Gwen could have provided in the cottage. Special mention has to go to the homemade bread - far too tempting to ignore ..... We chose to eat with our hosts on the second night and it was delicious. Left Hawkes Bay with great memories and a few extra kilos on board :-)
