Lovely spot - bit of NZ history

Really nice historic home - surrounded by beautiful gardens containing exotic species. Peacocks roaming and weka walking around too. Busy place.

Mansion House

We visited on Thursday and got there about an hour before opening, very excited to go in as last time I was there it was a hotel in 1974. There were 10 of us and the guy on the entry desk ( I presume a DOC employee) had a major attitude, he had been on the island since 19 December without a day off and he was catching the 2 pm ferry off the island so was closing at 1.45, he kept moaning how tired he was. It was a disgrace, any overseas tourist would have wondered what he was on about. After my tour I came downstairs to leave and he was berating the next lot of visitors about how tired he was and how he had to catch the 2 pm Ferry. I loved the place and the island , pity he had to spoil such a gem.

Must see on Kawau

One of the must see/do stops on Kawau.
The history of the island is not only centered around the historic Mansion House, but carefully explained in some of the many exhibits.
Beautiful grounds on a warm sunny summers day. Nice gentle walks, one of the most popular being to the old “Coppermine ruins”.
Winter hours vary, check with ferry operator before traveling.

Near getaway

The place was serene and the old house told a lot of history. The receptionist was really good and friendly
