Awesome place to stay
What a suprise this place was, there was not many photos here on tripadvisor or their website, so it was kind of a shot in the dark, but it did worth it. The bedroom was huge, with a nice ensuite and great shower, linen and duvets were all clean, we even had a flanel sheet in our bed to keep it warm. Once we checked in, the heating was already on, so the bedroom was nice and warm. And if you are a dog person (like I am) you would feel most welcome by their dogs, at the time of my arrival I have a warm welcome of 4 puppies also, so cute. I'd definitely stay there again and if you are looking for a great weekend in the snow, there's no better place to relax.
A great little place to stay with friendly hosts
I booked and stayed three nights at the Marilynrose Cottage in Rangataua, a short distance away from Ohakune. I was snowboarding up at Turoa and had a brilliant few days on the mountain. Marilynrose is B and B style accommodation offering 4 rooms for rent. Each room has it's own en-suite and the decor is absolutely wonderful. Gary, the host, has a penchant for all things Marilyn Monroe and has fitted the rooms accordingly but nothing over the top. I stayed in room one. The room was large and the quality of the bedding, fittings and particularly the bathroom (MASSIVE shower!!) was beyond anything I expected for the price, which is extremely reasonable. Rangataua is a shirt 5 minute drive from the centre of Ohakune, so you have the convenience of being pretty close to town, with the bonus of it being absolutely tranquil. The view from the dinning room window is superb with an amazing vista of Mt Ruapehu. Breakfast is continental style with cereals, yoghurt and fresh fruit salad and tea and coffee making facilities are available all day. For those snowboarding or skiing, there is a drying room for your gear. Unfortunately there are no kitchen facilities, although a microwave and fridge can be used by guests. Overall, I thought the Marilynrose was fantastic value, in quality accommodation. I would recommend it as great couples accommodation as it's quite a romantic little setting (great spa as well). The hosts are wonderful and make you feel most welcome. I'll definitely stay there again when I head back to the mountain. Cheers, Dale …
