Black Sand West Coast

I’m a west coaster brought up on black sand of Oakura. It was good to sea the black sand and the beach had not changed over time. If you have time check out the wreck along the coast reached by walking around the beach.

Hints: sunscreen, hat and water. Sunsets and sunrises are amazing

A beach for everyone to enjoy

Beautiful part of the country. The locals clearly love their beaches and make the absolute most of having them. There are dogs running around, paddle boarders, swimmers and kayakers. All admiring the gorgeous views on offer. There is something for everyone. Fantastic beach to just walk along if you want. So well looked after and clean.

Would live here if we could.

Gorgeous coastal Beach and village

This black sand beach is fantastic, The sunsets are something out of this world. Very popular stretch of coastline for surfers and fisherman alike. From the beach to the little town that has just what you need a takeaway or two and a four square for your ice-creams. Its a must visit while in Taranaki

Stunning!

Oakura beach is absolutely gorgeous, we would live here if we could ( or if we could afford it) :) We found a walkway which seems to start at the far end of the camping ground, goes for a fair way and really quite scenic.

Beautiful part of New Zealand

This part of New Zealand is absolutely beautiful and probably a bit neglected by tourists. Fabulous, slightly wild West Coast beaches, bush walks and lots of early European and Māori history. A fantastic weekend escape.

Great beach

Bodysurfing/surfing is ???? great and a safe beach.Surf club have a nice cafe with good food etc. There is a well run camping ground at one end and toilets near surf club .parking may be a problem but more further packs along the terrace

Best little beach

This place is a hidden gem as it is such a gorgeous spot and seldom very busy. The beach is patrolled in the summer but is a gentle slope so that families can have fun in the waves or the river. The only thing to be aware of is that the black sand can be very hot so wear something on your feet.
