Great Museum!
This is a really well thought out museum, with heaps of displays and information. The National Geographic Photography Display was also being shown and it was excellent. Interesting enough for both kids and adults. Well done New Plymouth!

Ensure you go here - one of the BEST museums in NZ
Layout, displays, excellent, the setting superb, vibrant, and user friendly.
Very informative and a great way to learn about the history of New Plymouth, also history of NZ, very clever way it is set out.
Upstairs the animal exhibits great as well.
Were very fortunate to be able to see the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographic exhibition...MAGNIFICENT.
Went on a wet day and spent over an hour or so there, highly recommend, and not too big so you can see everything

Great way to spend the day
Modern art building with interesting museum exhibits showcasing Taranaki’s past, and, present. Loved the pioneers and Maori sections of the museum- very informative, interactive and well done. We spent a whole afternoon here and it wasn’t quite enough. Best of all, its free!
The public library is linked to the building just across the internal bridge.
Highly recommended.

Worth it
It’s the best display of Maori art (paintings) and walking down memory lane, historical significance

Small town doesn’t mean small history - fascinating
Being a small town museum the history is obviously localized to the area but it is still a fascinating way to spend a rainy morning in New Plymouth. Definitely glad I went
