Arrived in town and discovered this little gem by accident. Boardwalks cover the ground so that the tree roots are protected presumably or maybe it’s wet here, I don’t know. Big, old trees. Awesome. Nice seeing a green area.
Deserves to be better known
With the motorway and sports club right next to this reserve it is easy to miss this woodland oasis but I find it worth a repeat visit
Lovely short walk.
A lovely 20 min or so loop walk of about 1 km among varied native trees and plants. All in boardwalk to avoid damage. There’s and informative (if wordy) leaflet in a box just after the start with 40 or so numbered info points. Be warned these don’t correspond exactly to the map especially at the start.
Great way to get some nature time. Start is behind the cricket club. You won’t see the sign until up close. At the weekend the parking was full with netball/cricket/rugby folks so we parked on the street up behind Burger King.
Saw and heard dozens of Tui in the canopy and a couple of greenish parakeets flying low just above us.
Lovely bush walk with boardwalks and quiet surroundings!
Take the family and enjoy a quiet and calm bush walk through this lovely environment, bird life is abundant and very different from the usual humdrum of the city.
Hidden Gem (but don’t go alone)!
I love this walkway! It’s elevated through a ’hidden forest’ and although you can hear the motorway you feel a mile away! Full of bird life and interesting trees. Power Rangers has even been filmed there! I don’t ever go alone though as it’s the sort of place your mind wanders and then you fear you’ll meet a dodgy person or gang. Don’t let that put you off though, grab a friend (or can of pepper spray lol) and check it out. There’s usually a few dog walkers around. Takes about 15minutes to walk one circuit so I usually walk around twice. Stop for a drink at The Backyard Bar opposite and look out for the Fairy Tree!!
