Lovely quaint accomodation
We stayed here on the way to Wanaka on our honeymoon, and thought it was quite lovely. The rooms are very nice, with a large bathroom and shower. Next time I would dine elsewhere rather than in-house, as the restaurant/cafe was a little underwhelming.
We stayed for one night at the Inn and we were the only people staying. The rooms are across the garden from the Inn and are very clean and comfortably furnished. The Inn was closing at 4.00 that day but we were asked if we would like the chef to prepare an evening meal for us. We declined as we wanted to go into Alexandra and have a look around. We left the outside light on so that when we came back we could find our way to the room. It was amazing how isolated we felt although we were only just off the road. If the weather had been better we could have relaxed in the lovely garden. As it was we had a good night's sleep, very comfortable bed, and then an excellent breakfast cooked to order.
On arrival, we were greeted by... no one. But this was our own fault as we'd run late over the course of the day and hadn't called ahead. Personalised welcomes came in the form of a named envelope with an overview of what to expect. Rooms were beautifully presented and facilities faultless. Grounds are worth a stroll and the on-site cafe was a fantastic start to the day next morning. Will definitely be back!
Sublime lunch in Delightful surrounding
I had on several occasions driven past this delightful stone restaurant nestled amongst trees and a beautiful rural setting about 10 minutes outside of Alexander on State Highway 8. Staff were obliging, knowledgeable and the food we ordered was simply delicious. I can't impress enough how delicious the homemade pate was which I coupled with fresh boysenberry and apple juice. The juice is the best I have ever had. My sister had the eggs Benedict which she said was prepared beautifully and the organic eggs were perfect. I had the homemade pate which came with toasted bread and homemade chutneys. Sublime. As a side we had the wedges which were large skin on crispy, delicious and fleshy on the inside. Stop and Enjoy this well kept secret!
