Spectacular beech and tarns
Great half day hike up past the Parachute Rocks onto the top of the St Arnaud Range ridge and along to the 1787 m peak. Great views of Rotoiti Lake and also the Tarns on the other side of the ridge. Lovely beech forest. Highly recommend.

Steep track, amazing views
We walked the St Arnaud Range Track in late December. The walk starts in the beech forest and gradually gets steeper and steeper and steeper.
The track is a bit tricky with lots of tree roots and loose rocks so hiking boots with good grip are recommended.
We found this walk HARD. It is steep uphill the whole way with no relief. Saying that though, the views at the top are worth it.
We are quite unfit but we made it eventually - it took us 6 hours compared to the 5 hours on the sign at the start, but a lot of people overtook us and completed it much faster.

Variety, amazing views, nice challenge
One tramp is the Mt Robert Ridgeway way.( Book Angelus hut well in advance as it does get booked out) You need to be fit and make sure you check the weather beforehand as very exposed at the top. Recommend walking poles for those with less than perfect hips or knees. Well worth the walk. For those who want a challenge take the Cascade trip back down. It is very steep at the start but so worth it. Stay at the Coldwater hut ( can’t book) and have insect repellant!!!!!!!! Awesome 3 day tramp for those who love a bit of a challenge.

A great tramp!
Weather was clear and sunny when we left the lakeshore but was cloudy and cool with a wind chill making it feel like 3C at ridge top. Nevertheless as rewarding as ever with many native orchids in bloom in the bush and a few early alpine’s flowering above the bushline.

Beautiful and Hamish and his water taxi was a great way to see it
We thought the scenery was so magical and the water was so inviting, the whiskey falls story was funny and Hamish with his water taxi was lovely and a great way to see around the lake
What a place
Totally recommend seeing it
Swim if you can
Birds everywhere
Fresh air
We will be back

Lake Rotoiti - Stunning
It is a small place but beautiful. The view from Mount Victoria is absolutely amazing. The walk along the Nelson Lakes National Park is beautiful especially for walkers who are not used to hiring but want to enjoy the beautiful rainforest.
