About us

During the week we provide delicious burgers, pizzas and bar meals and then from Friday to Sunday a evening dining menu that is inspired by fresh local produce and seafood and includes dishes with a Southern American style, Spanish beef cheeks as well as Flounder, fish fresh from the harbour and local oysters. A special treat is our Oyster and Bacon burger - a delicious combination. Gluten free options for Pizza and Burger as well as Vegetarian options. Saturday and Sundays we are open for brunch serving locally inspired Kaipara Smoked Fish Eggs Bene, Pulled Pork and Fried Eggs and our very own home-made smokey BBQ beans. Light salad options also available as well as the Paparoa Pub sausage meal with our very own tasty pork sausage with the flavours of paprika and fennel. Takeaways are 7 days a week and fresh coffee and cake every day from three. We make all our ingredients in house, including our very own pizza sauce and in-house glazed Ham, freshly baked cakes and on the weekend freshly baked brioche, providing fresh food with delicious flavours.

Excellent Hospitality

Four of us had a great stay at the Thirsty Tui last night in two rooms (1 & 3). A classic country pub with genuine friendly staff who are always busy doing their best to ensure your time there is enjoyable. The dinner menu is extensive including fresh fish and local oysters when available. All our meals were fabulous, especially the authentic lamb curries and condiments (curry night every second Sunday). All meals were presented beautifully. By 6.00pm on a Sunday evening the lounge bar and dining room was full of happy locals enjoying themselves, definitely a good sign! The accommodation is a little dated, but both rooms were super clean, with basic ensuite bathrooms and comfortable warm beds. It’s not a 5 star Hilton hotel and nor does it portray to be one. Top marks to management and the wonderful staff, we will look forward to your excellent hospitality again soon.

Great food

Nice period hotel / restaurant, and the range of food available WAY exceeded our (group of 10) expectations. Portions were generous and all very tasty, the whole group went away happy, definitely a great lunch stop (didn't need much to eat later in the day)

A step back in time

We grabbed a bus and took 40 friends out for lunch This is one of the most amazing historic places, built in the 50s The character of the building seeps out of the walls The food is homemade, just like grandma's, delicious and nutritious Accommodation is available, the rooms and flat look so comforting Well worth adding to the bucket list

Really worth the drive!!

Just bought a new car, wanted a drive, saw the Thirsty Tui on TV earlier in the week, so... FANTASTIC and totally worth a drive, I had the Flounder, followed by sticky date pudding and was such great quality and fresh. Service was super friendly, and helpful, even though it was full and they were busy. So many more items on the menu to come back for too! And I will!!

First time diner at the Thirsty

First time diner at the Thirsty Tui and I can’t tell you how delighted I am that it’s out closest restaurant. It feels like you’re eating in a friends dining room that’s situated in the kind of pub your parents went to and left you in the car with a coke and bag of crisps/chips back in the 80s. You can hear the banter of the public bar from the dining room and it’s all good. The flounder was melt on the mouth perfect and the pie had pastry that would win Masterchef. I’m actually loathe to share this review as I want to get a seat anytime I go BUT if you’re passing Paparoa stop and enjoy.
