A gem with a view
Stayed here for one night on our trip around the East Cape. I had searched the internet for somewhere in that rough area and Waikawa seemed to tick all the boxes. I emailed the owner, Russell, before booking and received a prompt reply. We found the turn from the highway onto the driveway quite easily. At first sight, we thought we had booked a tree house. A wooden building in the midst of trees was at the end of the drive. We were greeted by a very welcoming Russell. He showed us to our en-suite upstairs accommodation and gave us a detailed description of the set up and the immediate area. Our unit, Bluebird, had it's own front door, a small hallway and stairs leading to the room. We were asked if we would mind removing our shoes before walking on the light carpet. We do this at home and were more than happy to do so here. At the top of the stairs is a kitchen area consisting of a sink, under the counter fridge, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery. We were supplied with a jug of iced water, coffee, tea, milk and sugar. Also washing up equipment and insect repellant. The room is a nice size, with a double bed, 2 bedside tables, 2 lounge chairs, a table and 2 chairs and hanging space. There is a door out onto a small balcony with a table, chairs and a sun umbrella. The en-suite is spacious enough, having a sink, toilet and an electric shower with shower curtain. Towels and bed linen were provided. The best part of this room is the view from the large window opposite the bed. It took my breath away. The window frames a stunning view through trees across the Bay of Plenty to White Island in the distance! I could have sat there for hours looking out. There is a very short, but quite steep walk down to the rocky beach in front of the property also with clear views across to White Island. We were given advice on where to go for our evening meal, which was a short drive away and well worth the trip out. We had a very comfortable night and slept well. The view was wonderful to wake to. A knock at the door and a gentle call let us know that breakfast would be ready on the terrace when we were ready, but no rush. The breakfast was delicious! We were presented with a large bowl of cereal, a bowl of plums and a bowl of yoghurt, all accompanied by fresh orange juice, toast, marmalade, jam and either tea or coffee. A wonderful start to the day. There are other units available and a bbq for the use of guests. Other guests staying at the same time had been fishing and prepared and cooked their catch for their dinner. The atmosphere here is welcoming, friendly and special. I wish we had stayed here longer and would have no reservations in recommending it to anyone. …
idyllisch gelegenes B&B in der Bay of Plenty
