Views from the top

Highly recommend this hike, the scenery is beautiful and the view from the top is well worth the hike up getting there. You need to allow a good 3-4 hours to get to the top and back plus a nice break up the top. I suggest packing light and taking only what you need - water and a snack.
So many beautiful birds, trees and plants. The waterfalls are lovely and it’s a fascinating place to visit. This is not an easy walk, my parents and I are fit and I struggled in some sections and needed to stop a few times for a breather. Wear proper shoes.

GREAT VIEWS OF THE WATERFALLS.

Fairly good walk to the waterfalls and the views were great, especially birds singing and the sound of the water.

Incredible sounds!

The falls are beautiful but the sound of the water and the birds are even better. There were all kinds of bird songs and a couple playful Fantails keeping us company.

Beautiful tall waterfall, uphill hike

Due to time I only hiked to the waterfall, not the top, and while strenuous and uphill, it was a beautiful walk. The viewing platform is quite a bit a way from the waterfall itself, so it is still seen from afar.

Gorgeous views, worth the hike

I hiked Wairere Falls on a sunny day in January with friends. The trail is easy to follow and well maintained. There is a lower viewpoint with a great view of the waterfall through lots of foliage. The viewpoint at the top is definitely worth the additional hike for gorgeous sweeping views of the surrounding area. It was windy when we were there (I assume this is pretty typical) so watch out, you can get sprayed with water from the falls with strong gusts of wind at the top viewing platform. Overall I would highly recommend this hike!

Picturesque walk with ovely fallls

It takes about 45 minutes on average to reach the bottom of the falls. Those that want to can continue for about another 45 minutes to the top of the falls. It is uphill most of the way but worth the climb with a river winding it’s way through the bush creating beautiful scenery

Hard but fun hike (nice view) for family with 12 & 10 year olds

My kids enjoyed complaining about how many stairs there were on this climb (there’s one section of them) but although it was strenuous it’s definitely do-able. Although not spectacular, the view from the lookout was nice (we didn’t do the full hike to the top since it was raining).
It’s definitely a must do in the area if you’re a hiking family.

Steep but worth it

Well maintained track. Steep but beautiful. I am not fit but did it with friends and family and found it not too strenuous. Kids aged 8, 10 and 12. Younger kids easily made it up to the first lookout which takes 45min. A couple of our group carried onto the top lookout and said it was worth it. As we came down, we stopped at the first bridge closest to the track entrance and the kids swam in the water beneath the bridge which they loved. Only warning is that a lot of the track is rocky and if wet, can be slippery. We all went in sneakers and were fine but I can see that if you don’t have good balance or co-ordination, it could be more challenging.
