Wanaka is a gorgeous place on wanaka lake.
I would visit Wanaka over Queenstown and Tekapo
Simply stunning township and has the great feel of awesome scenery, with great food and wine to match. A must do

Safe and Clean
Had a wonderful week here in Wanaka. The Lake is spectacular, same with the scenery and so many wonderful walks in the area. We really only touched the surface of the walks there are so many.
The town itself is delightful, nicely laid out, nice shops and restaurants, plenty of variety. Just lovely and not commercialized.
Small but impact
What a great place this is. Beautiful as it is and we enjoyed a lot of activities. Food is great around here and people serve you with a smile.
A place with lots to do. Heaps of great walks and fun activities. We recommend at least 3+ days to really appreciate the beauty of the lakes and rivers that Wanaka has to offer.
Great place for break
Loved our stay. You have option to shop, eat, coffee, vineyards, fish, explore, swim or do some great bike rides and do much more. Like Wanaka over Queenstown but both have so much beauty and adventures for all ages and stages. Got to try an E-bike at Glendhu bike park. Awesome.
Nice..different to Queenstown
As small towns go it’s nice as it has decent cafes and a pretty lake along with skiing. It is not Queenstown and doesn’t profess to be. Don’t expect that same international flair or feel (or arguably the same depth of dramatic beauty). It is lovely nontheless and has its own beauty in a more low key way. To us it felt more like Taupo. Its a nice spot to visit as an example of a nice but simpler kiwi town (than a Queenstown) and it does have a good food and wine culture with some great cafes and wineries too so it certainly has appealing aspects. Worth a visit.
I can’t believe how quiet Wanaka is without International tourists. Regardless of what you wnt to do it is a great place to stay and go from there. Tramping, heading up to the Rob Roy Track, Isthmus Peak, or Rous peak. The are pleanty of flat cycling areas also. All the adrenaline spots and even quaint cinemas with intermissions.
What a chilled out place with incredible views. Really enjoyed walking around the lakefront and shops and people were very friendly.
