About us

Wildwood is a lake edge property on the shores of Lake Rotoehu, and is set on over five acres of landscaped grounds with almost two hundred meters of private lake frontage, available only to guests. No other houses can be seen from anywhere on the entire estate, and all accommodation options have private balconies overlooking the lake and Hinehopu cliffs. Suites are 400sq ft and the guest house is 700sq ft, and all have baggage and dressing rooms, well appointed en suite bathrooms and oversize walk in showers. Wildwood offers a fully inclusive tariff with breakfast, dinner, wines and Wifi included in the rate, but a B&B option is available if preferred. Wildwood is situated a little out of town and away from the sulphur smells of the city. It is a 15 minute drive from the airport for those arriving by air, and we have on site helipad and float plane docking facilities.

Simply the best

Cath and Simon ,the owners of Wildwood are the most welcoming hosts that would be possible to find. We were made to feel so very much at home in this beautifully located lodge on the banks of the lake, quietness and the stunning views over the lake ,make this a perfect place to unwind . Cath is a genius ,her canapés before dinner with Simons frequent wine visitations will be the subject of many an after dinner conversation in dark winter days ahead, her meals were simply superb. These two lovely people provided us with so much good advice on the surrounding area and activities. We had such an enjoyable stay with these two delightful people , thank you for your warm, kind welcome in your beautiful home .

Wonderful Lodge, Great Hosts, Everything Wonderful

My wife and I travelled to the Rotorua area as part of a four week trip to Australia and New Zealand and stayed two nights at Wildwood Lodge, just outside Rotorua. We had the place to ourselves, staying in the separate cottage on the property which is right on an incredibly scenic lake. Our one bedroom cottage was huge, with all the amenities, a very comfortable king size bed and a most adequate bathroom with a roomy power shower. There is a large spa on the deck off of the bedroom. The five acre property on the edge of Lake Rotoehu was very pretty, impeccably maintained and had orchards laden with fruit. The Lodge is an all inclusive experience, including the wine and champagne in the mini refrigerator in the room. Breakfast and dinner, including all drinks, were provided. Cath and Simon proved to be the most amiable and kindly hosts, regaling us with interesting stories and places to visit while plying us with pre-dinner drinks. Cath is a superb cook. Her lamb and venison dishes were to die for! Never have I tasted such succulent and tender meat cooked to perfection! Simon's choice of wine to accompany the meals was excellent too. Breakfast the next morning was tasty, offering both home made granola, jams and lemon curd, the latter two made from fruits from their own orchards, as well as pastries and a cooked breakfast if you still had room! We could not recommend Wildwood Lodge highly enough!! …

Amazing accommodation, food and company

We travelled to the Rotorua area as part of a three week trip to New Zealand just as the main tourist season was coming to an end and stayed in Wildwood Lodge, just outside Rotorua. We had the place to ourselves, staying in the separate cottage on the property. Our cottage was huge, with plenty of storage and very comfortable king size bed and a most adequate bathroom with a roomy power shower. The grounds on the edge of Lake Rotoehu were very pretty with orchards laden with fruit. Breakfast and dinner, including all drinks, were provided. Cath and Simon proved to be the most amiable and kindly hosts regaling us with interesting stories and places to visit while plying us with pre-dinner drinks. We loved every moment of our stay. One of the highlights was the visit to Soda Springs just up the road - recommended by Simon and Cath as a cheap and more authentic experience of bathing in hot springs than the many commercially run alternatives in the Rotorua area. We had the place almost to ourselves and were glad we could contribute to the maintenance of traditional Maori culture. We will not forget our Wildwood Lodge experience for a long time. Thank you Cath and Simon! …

The best of the best!

If you have read the other reviews of Wildwood Lodge you get a sense of what this bit of paradise is about. The facility is immaculate, private, and spectacularly located a half hour from Rotorua. As nice as all of that is, it is your hosts that deliver that special something that so few others can. They have been hosts to 5 star generals, captains of industry, and land barons. My wife and I don't quite fit into any of those categories, but I can't imagine that they could have been treated with any more care, kindness and respect than we were. If you will be traveling to the Rotorua area, you will not be disappointed with a stay at this beautiful lodge.

Absolutely Lovely!

This was our first stop on a 3 week journey through NZ. We couldn't have asked for a better introduction. The accommodations were fabulous and the food superb! We had a full day guided fishing trip with Murray who was informative and extremely knowledgeable! Would highly recommend this lodge!
